Raising Fort Charlotte's Colors 250th Anniversary Festival

Come Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Fort Charlotte’s Capture – from 9-3 at three venues:

South Carolina Governors School for Agriculture at John de la Howe, where the reenactment of the fort’s surrender to Patriots will take place among many other activities.

Fort Charlotte Memorial Site in Hester’s Bottoms Campground, where the formal unveiling ceremony of the highly anticipated site improvements will occur.

Willington History Center Complex, home to the Fort Charlotte diorama & one of MC250’s outdoor Historical Site maps, pointing out 18 Revolutionary War related McCormick County sites, including the Gateway locations in adjoining Abbeville, Greenwood & Edgefield Counties. Other event day activities will happen there too.

This event, FREE to the public, is presented by the McCormick County 250 Committee in association with the SC Governors School for Agriculture at John de la Howe, Willington on the Way and Hester’s Bottoms Campground.

Entry to the Governor’s School for Agriculture at John de la Howe (Site 14) is via the Main gate on Branch drive, past the Historical Marker at the SE corner of Branch Dr. & Hwy. 81.

The Fort Charlotte Memorial Site (Site 7) is at the end of Fort Charlotte Rd. in Hester’s Bottoms Campground (Mount Carmel). Due to limited parking, visitors will be bused back & forth for free from the JDLH campus (&/or Willington) during event day.

The Willington History Center Complex (Site 1) at 1801 Morrah Bridge Rd. is between the JDLH campus & Fort Charlotte Memorial site. Limited parking will be available on event day or visitors can park at JDLH & be bused to & from Willington &/or continue to the Ft. Charlotte Memorial site for free.
